In July 1998 the Futral's moved from Texas to Alabama to pursue a career with a local manufacturer and purchased 28.5 acres of property in Woodland, Alabama. The land had about 18 acres in pasture and the balance was in hardwoods and pine.
The Futrals built their personal home on the 18 acres, with the help of their children, and began to look at the remaining 10.5 acres that were currently overgrown with hardwoods and pine trees.
In 2012 the decision was made to begin a pecan orchard. Futral Farms started with 2 varieties of pecans, Excel and Oconee. That first year was hard on the trees with over 60 inches of rain and wildlife feasting on trees.
At today's count there are over 900+ pecan trees planted on the property, separated into Zones based on the variety of pecan.
